Job Summary
To review collected data and to prepare a variety of reports and/or plans directed at preventing the spread of infection to patients, visitors and staff. To provide infection preventionist with interpretations of CDC definitions in relation to health‑care associated versus community‑acquired infections. To serve as a consultant to staff with regard to mock TJC surveys, best‑practice procedures, compliance with all regulatory guidelines and to provide infection prevention education.
Responsibilities- Collect and compile infection and best‑practice compliance data and report appropriately.
- Enter data into Thera Doc and the national health‑care safety network.
- Review discharge and admission patient data on infections and notify accordingly.
- Manage isolation, care and reporting of TB patients in collaboration with clinical staff and the Department of Health.
- Serve as ICP consultant for construction projects.
- Review microbiology reports and discuss unfamiliar organisms with the manager or director.
- Integrate IC surveillance systems within the hospital infection prevention program.
- Review autopsy reports for post‑mortem infection detection and report appropriately.
- Report to employee health and monitor employee exposures to communicable diseases.
- Report findings of infection prevention department mock surveys and relate to performance improvement.
Two (2) years of nursing experience in an acute‑care hospital.
Certifications, Licenses or Registration RequiredValid RN license.
Preferred QualificationsCertification by the board of infection control.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Analytical skills.
- Proficiency with personal computers and related software applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self‑motivation, team orientation and the ability to interact professionally with clinicians, physicians and upper‑level management.
- Knowledge of adult education preferred.
Requires occasional handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, exposure to bio‑hazardous conditions (e.g., radiation, blood‑borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals), occasional travel to off‑site locations, and tasks such as bending, lifting up to 10pounds, climbing, crawling, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, standing, walking, and twisting under specified conditions.
