Charge Nurse – Adult Critical Care – Med Surg – 6 West

6 West, Main Campus, Jackson, Mississippi

Provides expert patient care and acts as a clinical resource to staff. Assists nursing staff in the development, implementation and evaluation of nursing care and treatment for patients in an assigned area. Maintains quality standards in patient care established by UMMC and the nursing profession. Delegates patient care to auxiliary personnel. Consults with medical and other health care staff regarding patient care.

Functions as lead RN to the unit and other staff members.

• Must be licensed as an RN for at least one (1) year.
• Valid RN license.
• Preferred:
  Two (2) years of RN experience in a specified area.
• BSN preferred.

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate treatments and procedures for patients.
• Serve as lead nurse, supervise and provide coaching, training and education to RNs and other nursing staff.
• Ensure patient safety.
• Assist leadership in scheduling and ensuring appropriate staffing mix for each shift.
• Consult and participate with leadership in evaluation of staff.
• Educate patients and family members on conditions, diet, medication schedules and side effects.
• Consult and report patient issues and concerns to medical and health care staff.
• Maintain accurate patient records (charts, schedules, procedures, medication history, etc.).
