RN‑OR Service Coordinator

Job Summary: Provides expert patient care and acts as a clinical resource to staff. Assists nursing staff in the development, implementation and evaluation of nursing care and treatment for patients in an assigned area. Maintains quality standards in patient care established by UMMC and the nursing profession. May act as Charge Nurse. Delegates patient care to auxiliary personnel. Consults with medical and other health care staff regarding patient care.

Routinely works with vendors and other departments. This job profile may require call subject to the department's discretion.

Education & Experience: Must be licensed as RN for one (1) year. Two (2) years of RN experience in specified area preferred. BSN preferred.

Certifications, Licenses or Registration: Valid RN license required. CNOR preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of staff nursing care procedures and protocols.
Demonstrates excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge and understanding of computer systems, tools and programs.
Ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities:

Provide leadership to Operating Room Staff under the direction of the Nurse Manager and act as a resource to staff, attending, and resident physicians.

Review daily case schedule and help assign staff to OR’s based on skill/experience.

Ensure supplies, instrumentation and implants are available for the cases assigned service by coordinating with vendors and Materials Management.

Act as preceptor within service; work with Educator to orient orientees.

Function as Charge Nurse; provide input into hiring decisions, disciplinary actions, and annual performance evaluations.

Organize assigned service, assist in achieving surgical efficiency metrics, and maintain preference cards.

Assist Nurse Manager with annual evaluation of employees within service line.

Support Perioperative Leadership in drafting and revising surgical policies and procedures.

Maintain regulatory readiness with Managers, Directors, and ACNO; keep environment clean and equipment safe.

Model leadership, critical thinking, follow up and follow through.

Collaborate with physicians on capital budget planning, acquisition, and service‑specific quality goals.

Work with Sterile Processing Department to develop and revise instrument sets and address processing issues.

Physical and Environmental Demands: Requires occasional exposure to high noise level, heat and cold, biohazardous conditions, handling of dangerous equipment, and potentially lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds. Occasional overtime and travel to offsite locations may be required. Frequent bending, twisting, and walking.
