Job SummaryTo manage and provide patient medical care in a specialty area and promote patient health and wellness by assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating appropriate care in collaboration with a physician and in accordance with UMMC, state, and federal requirements and guidelines. Perform duties in accordance with the medical center’s purpose.
Education & ExperienceMaster’s degree or higher in Nursing.
Certifications & LicensureMississippi APRN license and national certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Knowledge of APRN procedures and protocols.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of Mississippi Board of Nursing regulations.
- Complete health assessments in a newborn area, including patient histories and physical exams.
- Order, collect, and interpret relevant laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
- Formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans in a newborn area based on assessments.
- Plan care to include patient and family education, prescriptions, additional lab and diagnostic testing, and therapies.
- Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and care provided.
- Coach and mentor newer nurse practitioners.
- Serve as expert/resource to nursing staff in the newborn area.
- Serve on at least one nursing council, hospital, or medical center committee, task force, or project team to improve patient care or the work area.
- Demonstrate core standards of exceptional customer service.
- Recognize that duties listed are examples and not exhaustive; management may add or change duties at any time.
Occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environments such as high noise levels and heat or cold; handling equipment; exposure to biohazardous conditions; frequent lifting of more than 100 pounds; climbing, crouching, kneeling; driving; prolonged standing, walking, twisting; and frequent reaching. These demands vary from 51% to more than 100% of the capacity based on tasks performed.
Employment DetailsPart time; 25% FTE; hourly pay; day shift. No FLSA exemption. No pay class specified.
