Part Time – Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NP) – Department of Pediatrics (NICU)

Main Campus, Jackson, Mississippi

To manage and provide patient medical care in a specialty area and promote patient health and wellness by assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating appropriate care in collaboration with a physician and in accordance with UMMC, state, and federal requirements and guidelines. Perform duties in accordance with the medical center’s purpose.

Master’s degree or higher in Nursing.

Mississippi APRN license and national certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.

• Knowledge and understanding of Mississippi Board of Nursing regulations.

• Complete health assessments in a newborn area, including patient histories and physical exams.
• Order, collect, and interpret relevant laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
• Formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans in a newborn area based on assessments.
• Plan care to include patient and family education, prescriptions, additional lab and diagnostic testing, and therapies.
• Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments, care plans, and care provided.
• Coach and mentor newer nurse practitioners.
• Serve as expert/resource to nursing staff in the newborn area.
• Serve on at least one nursing council, hospital, or medical center committee, task force, or project team to improve patient care or the work area.
• Demonstrate core standards of exceptional customer service.

Occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environments such as high noise levels and heat or cold; handling equipment; exposure to biohazardous conditions; frequent lifting of more than 100 pounds; climbing, crouching, kneeling; driving; prolonged standing, walking, twisting; and frequent reaching. These demands vary from 51% to more than 100% of the capacity based on tasks performed.

Part time; 25% FTE; hourly pay; day shift. No FLSA exemption. No pay class specified.
