Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of an RN, the UMMC Student Nurse Tech (SNT) program allows nursing students, who are actively progressing through an accredited school of nursing, to float to designated clinical areas and provide direct and indirect patient care. The program consists of three (3) levels that expand as students complete clinical competencies in their nursing program. Student nurse techs will work in designated adult and children’s hospital units and are employed as part-time, non‑benefitted positions based on cost per unit of service.

They strengthen critical thinking skills, learn time management and clinical practice and transition toward a future position as a registered nurse. Student nurse techs may continue to participate in the nurse extern program and will resume an SNT position after completion.
