Healthcare Nursing, Mental Health Nurse
Provides nursing care of psychiatric consumers on a full-time basis. Designs nursing care plans and assists in the development of the overall care plan for children and adult psychiatric consumers. Ensures appropriate overall care is administered in a manner conducive to recovery. Reports to Medical Services Supervisor.
Essential Functions
- Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards of Hinds Behavioral Health Services (HBHS).
- Relates with consumers, public and team members in a manner conducive to a harmonious working environment in which consumer-centered goals are achieved.
- Coordinates care and administers medication of all assigned consumers.
- Responsible for administering and dispensing the proper dose of suboxone medication as prescribed by the Certified Psychiatrist or Certified PMHNP.
- Provides direct-care nursing and targeted case management in accordance with HBHS standards of consumer care. Documents in accordance with HBHS standards.
- Rotates responsibility for injections, buy and bill process, reviewing and reporting lab results, education groups, targeted case management and TB skin tests for employees.
- Submits or assists with prior authorizations for injections and services; ensuring PA has been obtained before injections are performed.
- Attends in-services and incorporates information for improving consumer care.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-services meetings and workshops.
- Develops and implements educational programs; provides and promotes growth and development opportunities.
- Supports and interprets mission, philosophy and objective of HBHS.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in nursing required; previous psychiatric experience preferred. Current RN license in Mississippi. Employee must demonstrate ability to recognize consumers’ individual needs based on medical conditions, age (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, young adults, middle-aged and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures. OSHA – moderate to high risk. May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Occasional exposure to unpleasant consumer or unit elements.
