Registered Nurse (RN)
The position is available in the Med/Surg unit, which includes:
- 2 West: 13 beds
- 6 West: 14 beds
- 7 South: 12 beds
- 4 Wiser: 30 beds
- 5 Wiser: 25 beds
The typical nurse-to-patient ratio for all Med/Surg units is 1:5, which may extend to 1:6 during high-volume situations. Ratios will be adjusted for higher acuity patients.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive care to patients with various medical and surgical diagnoses, including general Med/Surg, congestive heart failure, diabetes, post-surgical recovery, trauma, acute kidney injury, sickle cell anemia, and respiratory illnesses.
- Administer medications and manage intravenous (IV) drips as ordered. Familiarity with heparin and potential amiodarone administration is required.
- Engage in ongoing communication with the central monitoring system for patient telemetry and cardiac monitoring.
- Participate in patient care coordination and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Assist with and support unit leadership in supervising the healthcare team and ensuring high standards of patient care.
- Registered Nurse (RN) with valid licensure.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required;
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred for charge nurses. - Experience in Level 1 trauma or at a high-acuity facility is mandatory.
- Proficiency in managing lines and chest tubes is essential.
The role involves working within a diverse patient population in a fast-paced Med/Surg environment. Nurses will float between all Med/Surg units, ensuring adaptability across varying patient needs and unit procedures.
Shift Details- Standard shifts are 12 hours, with options for day (7 AM - 7 PM) or night (7 PM - 7 AM) schedules.
- Traveling staff are expected to fill scheduling gaps, but block scheduling may be accommodated when possible.
- Weekend work is typically required every other or every two weekends.
- Holidays are rotated with regular staff members.
New hires will undergo a comprehensive orientation including:
- Completion of necessary paperwork and attestations.
- Training on electronic health record systems and unit protocols.
- A guided tour of the unit and introduction to key personnel.
- Two additional shifts working alongside a preceptor for hands-on training.
- Compliance with all vaccination requirements, including an influenza vaccine, unless a medical exemption is documented.
- Background checks and fingerprinting are required prior to starting.
