Shortage Control Associate
Join our team as a Shortage Control Associate and contribute to a secure shopping environment while delivering exceptional customer service! The role directly impacts the store’s security and overall shopping experience by exhibiting command presence, understanding theft trends, and maintaining a positive impression of control at store entrances, exits, and high‑risk areas.
In this role you will engage with customers and associates in a confident, friendly, and energetic manner, maintain safety and security standards, monitor the entrance for the duration of each shift, and reduce opportunities for theft and shoplifting. You will also build trust and respect among customers and associates, identify and report theft incidents or suspicious individuals to your Manager on Duty, and support the store’s theft‑reduction programs.

- Maintain a professional appearance at all times, wearing the designated dress standards, radio, and earpiece.
- Stand positioned at the front of the store, remaining vigilant and aware of surroundings.
- Greet every customer entering or exiting the store with a warm smile and a loud, friendly greeting, promoting a sense of control and security.
- Create a secure environment and reduce opportunities for theft.
- Possess mastery of top shortage areas and support programs aimed at theft reduction.
- Effectively communicate information about theft prevention during store rallies and collaborate with the Manager on Duty.
- Conduct bag and package checks on store and corporate associates, ensuring adherence to safety and security standards.
- Understand the role in keeping the store and assets safe and secure.
- Provide support in training associates on shortage reduction programs and processes.
- Role‑model safety as a top priority and address any unsafe practices promptly.
- 1+ year’s experience in customer service, hospitality, retail, asset protection, loss prevention, or operations is preferred.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and visually monitor the store environment.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to review, analyze, and comprehend business trends.
- Ability to exhibit a positive demeanor, strong posture, and energetic greeting.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment with detailed focus and disciplined decision making.
- Excellent communication with customers and co‑workers.
- Excellent leadership skills that support fostering productive business relationships.
Flexible schedule—including nights, weekends, and holidays—as well as a competitive wage of $12.50 per hour. Part‑time associates may be eligible for Burlington’s benefits package, including medical coverage and a 401(k) plan, as well as up to four hours of paid time off annually after one year of service, up to eight paid holidays, and paid sick time in accordance with applicable law.
