Job Overview
The Communications Technician II will install work area outlets for floor, modular furniture, and walls, terminating CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks and mounting face plates and surface‑mount boxes. They will build closets, mounting and installing backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware, and grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling. The role requires completing all IDC connections, performing continuity tests on horizontal and riser cable, using volt‑ohm meters, troubleshooting opens, crosses, shorts, and transposed pairs, and using a tone set.
The technician will identify active voice or data circuits, manage crew performance, coordinate personnel and timelines, and produce accurate paperwork (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, etc.). They must adhere to company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and complete additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Install work‑area outlets and terminate CAT 3/CAT 5 jacks.
- Build closets with backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, and fiber optic hardware.
- Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling.
- Complete IDC connections and perform continuity, voltage, and tone‑set tests.
- Identify active voice or data circuits.
- Lead crew operations, provide training, coordinate personnel, and manage project timelines.
- Ensure accurate completion of all required paperwork.
- Maintain compliance with all quality and safety standards and regulations.
Skills & Qualifications
- Intermediate level experience in communications, structured cabling, and fiber splicing.
- Proficiency with cable pullers, punch downs, CAT 5, CAT 6, and fiber optics.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- Strong problem‑solving, critical‑thinking, and communication skills.
- Ability to work at heights, off ladders, in confined spaces; lift up to 50 lb and move up to 75 lb.
- Vision and hearing for colors, small print, and audible signals.
- Willingness to travel within the branch or regional territory as required.
- Reliable, self‑motivated, and able to promote company culture to colleagues, vendors, and clients.
- Contract to hire position based out of Jackson, MS.
- Pay range: $24.00 – $28.00 /hr.
