Job Summary
A Scaffold Helper assists Scaffold Builders in assembling and dismantling wooden structures, such as concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters, according to sketches, blueprints, or company standards. Competent to complete Journeyman level Scaffold tasks with minimal supervision.
Overview Of Primary Duties- Assist with erecting and dismantling scaffolding; inspect and sort scaffolding as required.
- May load and unload scaffold components and equipment.
- Assist with setting up hoisting equipment for raising and placing scaffold components.
- Use ropes, harnesses, or ladders to access scaffolding sites.
- Apply knowledge of drawings to assemble scaffolding from parts.
- Assist with bolt or screw connections.
- Verify vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bob, level, or other instruments.
- Cut, trim, or drill scaffold components for fit using hand and power tools.
- Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches according to load weight and size.
- Assist with assembling and installing supporting structures, rigging, hoists, and pulling gear using hand and power tools.
- Fabricate and maintain rigging such as slings, tackle, and ladders using hand and power tools.
- Assist with selection of scaffold component sizes and types and related materials.
- Maintain and keep scaffolding materials in proper order.
- Demonstrate Yates Core Values and Principles.
- Follow Yates Code of Conduct.
- Refuse unsafe work and carry out all work by established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices.
- Report incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
- Wear and maintain personal PPE.
- Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations.
- Participate in workplace inspections.
- Comply with statutory requirements, including duty of care.
- Participate in required and assigned training.
- Provide suggestions to improve Safety.
- Present a mature approach to working safely.
- Attend prestart and Safety meetings and contribute.
- Level IV: 36+ months of heavy industrial-related scaffold experience.
- Other verified experiences or certifications with scaffold experience.
- Level III: 24 to 35 months of heavy industrial-related scaffold experience.
- Level II: 12 to 23 months of heavy industrial-related scaffold experience.
- Level I: 0 to 11 months of heavy industrial-related scaffold experience.
- One year of industrial experience.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation.
- Personal hand tools as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List.
- Successful completion of required Safety training (Confined Space, LOTO, Working at Heights).
- All weather conditions at varying temperatures.
- Work at varying elevations; work in windy and dusty environments.
- Moderate to high noise levels.
- Presence of light to heavy equipment vehicles and tools.
- Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms.
- Required to wear safety-approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above.
- Required to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, and lift regularly.
- Ability to communicate verbally and with signals.
- Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
- Use vision to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
