Description
The Low Voltage Technician will work directly under the supervision of experienced technicians, learning the skills required to install, maintain, and repair Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems and fiber optic network infrastructure. This entry-level position is ideal for an individual eager to start a career in telecommunications, offering hands-on training and a pathway to becoming a certified technician.
Requirements
Training and Skill Development
- Assist senior technicians with all aspects of low voltage wiring, physical security such as cameras, access control and alarm system.
- Actively participate in on-the-job training sessions covering safety protocols, equipment operation, wiring standards, and network configuration.
- Learn to interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Study and adhere to all company safety policies and industry regulations (e.g., OSHA, NEC).
- Maintain a detailed log of training hours and tasks completed.
- Assist in pulling, terminating, splicing, and testing various types of low voltage cables including CAT6, Fiber, alarm wire, etc
- Help install and configure VoIP hardware, including IP phones, routers, switches, and associated network components at customer premises.
- Assist with the setup and calibration of test equipment, such as Fiber Testers, CAT6 Testers and Power voltage meters
- Prepare and organize work sites, ensuring all necessary tools and materials are available.
- Perform basic maintenance and inventory checks on company vehicles and specialized tools.
- Alarm/Camera/Access Control
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with customers.
- Assist in explaining basic system operation to customers upon job completion.
- Accurately complete paperwork, work orders, and service logs under the technician's supervision.
- Report any issues, safety concerns, or unexpected obstacles to the supervising technician promptly.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work in various weather conditions.
- Comfortable working at heights (on ladders or in bucket trucks or scissor lifts) and in confined spaces (attics, crawl spaces).
- Basic understanding of tools, power tools, and mechanical concepts.
- Prior experience or coursework in electrical wiring, networking, or telecommunications is a plus.
- Familiarity with basic computer networking concepts (IP addressing, routers, modems).
- Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills.

- Willingness to Learn: Eagerness to absorb new technical information and skills quickly.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to follow complex instructions and ensure precision in wiring and connections.
- Teamwork: Ability to take direction and work effectively as part of a two-person crew.
- Reliability: Punctual and dependable attendance is essential.
$15 to $20 Per Hour Based on Experience
