Heavy Equipment Operator I-This is the entry level class in the Heavy Equipment Operator
series. This class is distinguished from the Heavy Equipment Operator II by the
performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions in the series
including the operation of a smaller scope of heavy equipment. Employees in this class
work under immediate supervision and are not expected to perform with the same
independence of direction and judgment on matters related to established procedures and
guidelines as are positions allocated to the journey level.

Experience and Training Guidelines
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required
knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

One to two years of responsible experience performing maintenance work,
preferably involving the operation of construction equipment.
Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by training in
construction and equipment operation.

License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid CDL license, no exceptions.
