A Reinforcing Iron Helper will assist Reinforcing Iron Journeyman to position and secure steel bars in concrete forms to reinforce concrete.
- Level IV:
Competent to complete Journeyman level Reinforcing Iron tasks with minimal supervision.
- Assists in determining number, size, shape, and locations of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, and oral instructions.
- Positions and secures steel bars in concrete forms to reinforce concrete.
- Selects and places rod in forms, spacing and fastening them together using wire and pliers.
- Cuts bars to required lengths, using hacksaw, bar cutters or acetylene torch.
- Bend steel rods with hand tools or rod bending machine.
- Assists in reinforcing concrete with wire mesh.
- May assist in weld reinforcing bar together, using arc‑welding equipment.
- Ensures that all reinforcing material is in its proper position, so it receives its intended structural load.
- Loads, transports, unloads material, tools, equipment, and supplies.
- May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of material and work pieces during installation.
- May perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.
- Performs other duties as required
- Operation of electric and pneumatic tools.
Assist with the erection, handrails, walkways, and gangways in conjunction with formwork.
- May mix cement or epoxy grouts using concrete mixing machine or hoe.
- Ability to signal the concrete deliverer to position truck to facilitate pouring.
- Apply basic mathematical skills.
- Observe flat drawings or diagrams and understand how they would look like solid objects.

- Attend prestart and Safety meetings and contribute.
- Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.

Level IV:
- Thirty-six (36) + months of heavy industrial‑related reinforcing iron experience
- Other verified experiences or certifications with reinforcing iron experience
Level III:
- Twenty‑four (24) to thirty‑five (35) months of heavy industrial‑related reinforcing iron experience
Level II:
- Twelve (12) to twenty‑three (23) months of heavy industrial‑related reinforcing iron experience
Level I:
- Zero (0) to eleven (11) months of heavy industrial‑related reinforcing iron experience
- One (1) year of industrial experience
- Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation
- Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List
- Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights

Physical requirements for this role may include but are not limited to:
- All weather conditions at varying temperatures
- Work at varying elevations

- The project site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools
- Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms
- Required to wear safety‑approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above
- Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting
- Ability to talk and hear to communicate
- Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
- Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
- Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision
