Overview
The Communications Technician II will install work‑area outlets, build and maintain cable closets, perform testing, lead crew activities, complete paperwork, and adhere to quality and safety standards. This is a contract‑to‑hire, fully onsite position based in Jackson, MS.
Responsibilities- Install floor, modular furniture, and wall outlets, terminating CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mounting face plates and surface‑mount boxes.
- Build cable closets, mounting backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware, and grounding for racks, equipment and cable.
- Complete IDC connections, including terminating 110/66 blocks and patch panels.
- Perform cable testing: continuity tests on horizontal and riser cable, use of volt‑ohmmeter, troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, transpose pairs, and use a tone set.
- Identify active voice or data circuits.
- Assume responsibility for crew performance, provide training, coordinate personnel and timelines to complete projects.
- Accurately complete all paperwork on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, etc.).
- Adhere to and participate in all company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
- Self‑motivated, positive approach, professional; proactive in implementing process improvements.
- Promote company culture and mission to employees, vendors, clients and partners.
- Act as company liaison for interface with customer representatives.
- Demonstrate proven problem‑solving, critical thinking, effective reading, writing and oral presentation skills.
- Work at heights, off ladders and in confined spaces; lift up to 50 lbs and move up to 75 lbs.
- See and distinguish colors, read small print, hear and recognize audible signals.
- Travel within branch territory and/or regional territory as needed; regular attendance mandatory.
- Cabling (Cat6, Cat5, structured cabling, and punchdown)
- Experience with cable pullers, fiber optic connections, and cross‑connects
- Intermediate level experience
Pay range: $22.00 – $22.00/hr.
