Carpenter - Facilities Services

Job Summary:

To perform journeyman-level carpentry work to construct, erect, install, or repair structures and fixtures. Utilize a variety of materials, including but not limited to wood, concrete, plaster, tile, brick, metal, and glass.

Education & Experience

Required:

High school diploma/GED and one (1) year of carpenter experience.

Certifications, Licenses, or Registration required:
Valid Driver's License required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Vocational or technical certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair buildings and structures.
  • Skills in installing, repairing, and selecting the appropriate equipment necessary to complete the job.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints correctly.
  • Ability to comply with safety and environmental guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs skilled carpentry work by following instructions, rough sketches, or detailed drawings for the construction, repair, maintenance, and alteration of buildings, doors, partitions, and related fixtures.
  • Repairs and maintains building components, including floors, walls, ceilings, screens, windows, sashes, doors, and furniture.
  • Measures, shapes, and cuts materials to specified dimensions using hand tools, machinery, and power saws.
  • Sands, paints, and stains desks, chairs, and other wooden items.
  • Completes various finishing tasks and assembles frameworks or structures using hand tools, screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Removes and replaces damaged or defective structural components.
  • Constructs rough wooden structures such as barricades, boxes, scaffolds, and frameworks.
  • Operates power equipment including saws, jointers, lathes, sanders, planers, and boring and mortising machines.
  • Maintains a clean work environment, adheres to safety and environmental regulations, and ensures compliance with accrediting and licensing standards.
  • Completes and documents work in a timely manner while maintaining quality standards.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

Requires frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, frequent exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, frequent crouching/stooping, occasional driving, frequent kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, occasional sitting, frequent standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking.
