The Southern Stone Company is looking to add an Equipment Service Manager that will be responsible for overseeing and directing the field service operations, including repairs, installations, and preventive maintenance of equipment. This role involves scheduling and supervising Equipment Field Service Coordinators, developing and implementing operational processes, and providing ongoing technical support. Will work closely with other departments to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction while maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
This position demands independent judgment, decision-making skills, and discretion in managing service functions across the United States, with the base of operations located in Jackson, MO and will report to the Fleet Manager.
- Lead and manage a team of equipment field service coordinators, ensuring optimal performance, skill development, and adherence to safety standards.
- Ensure the timely and effective maintenance and repair of equipment, such as [list of equipment types like trucks, machinery, tools, etc.], to minimize downtime and maximize operational efficiency.
- Develop and implement a preventative maintenance program for all equipment to reduce the frequency of repairs and extend equipment lifespan.
- Oversee the inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment necessary for service and repair. Maintain accurate records of usage and reorder stock as needed.
- Develop and manage budgets for service operations, including equipment repair and maintenance costs, and work towards reducing operational expenses.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies related to equipment service, maintenance, and safety standards.
- Act as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders regarding equipment issues, and provide updates on repair progress, service schedules, and equipment availability.
- Generate and present regular reports on equipment service performance, including downtime, costs, and maintenance schedules, to upper management.
- Provide technical support for complex equipment issues and ensure prompt resolution of service problems.
- Verify coding and approve parts and service invoices.
- Strong ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team of service technicians, ensuring high performance and teamwork.
- Capability to train and develop technicians, fostering their technical skills and professional growth.
- Skill in resolving conflicts and ensuring a positive work environment, especially under high‑pressure situations.
- Knowing how to delegate tasks based on skills and team capacity to maintain efficiency and meet deadlines.
- Track and report turnaround times for major repairs, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance services.
- Compile and present a monthly summary of top machine expenses to identify trends and cost‑saving opportunities.
- Develop an annual asset budget by year‑end to guide the next year’s Repair & Maintenance budget.
- Demonstrate increasing technical knowledge of machinery components to support diagnostics, training, and service decisions.
- Validate parts and repair expenses against warranty status and equipment history to control costs and avoid unnecessary spending.
- Proven experience in field equipment service management or related roles, with strong leadership and technical knowledge.
- Excellent organizational, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
- Ability to work independently and make sound judgments in a dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of industry standards, MSHA safety regulations, and best practices for equipment servicing.
- Strong communication skills for coordinating across departments and with external vendors.
- Strong organizational and customer service capabilities to ensure smooth field operations.
- Willing and able to travel when needed.
- Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Must pass a background check and drug test.
- Ability to stand, walk, and be on your feet for extended periods of time to move around uneven surfaces.
- Required to climb on and off equipment which may include pushing, pulling and different body positioning.
- Perform work in different and extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, dust and more.
- Will be exposed to loud and moving mechanical parts and heavy machinery noise.
- Must wear required PPE and other safety gear.
