Key Duties:
  • Assist in preparing and submitting VA claims, appeals, and other benefit applications.
  • Schedule appointments, manage files, and maintain accurate case records.
  • Greet and assist veterans and families in person, by phone, or via email.
  • Conduct initial intake interviews to gather required information and documentation.
  • Prepare letters, forms, and supporting documents as directed.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and federal guidelines.
  • Research benefits and eligibility under VA, federal, state, and local programs.
  • Track claim status and provide updates to clients.
  • Perform data entry and manage digital/paper filing systems.
  • Coordinate with VA representatives, medical facilities, and community agencies.
  • Support community outreach, workshops, and veteran events.
  • Provide backup support during VSO absence or field visits
Qualifications:
  • Experience with veterans, military families, or customer service roles preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and database systems.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Familiarity with VA systems (eBenefits, VA.gov, VBMS) is a plus.
  • Must pass background check, have a valid driver’s license, and be able to obtain TDVA accreditation within a year of hire.
  • Primarily sedentary with occasional standing, walking, and light lifting.
  • May require travel for appointments or events.
  • Works under supervision of the Veteran Services Department Head or Director.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality required.
  • Part-time:
    Monday - Thursday 8am – 2pm and Friday 8am – 12pm
Special Notes
  • Must follow federal and state veterans’ benefits laws and procedures.
  • May be required to attend training (e.g., TRIPS, VA Privacy).
  • Role may involve supervising volunteers or interns in some jurisdictions

This position blends administrative support with veterans’ benefits advocacy, both technical skills and compassionate service.
