Responsibilities

What You’ll Do:

The duties listed below are examples of the variety and general nature of those performed by employees in this job title. Management reserves the right to add or change duties. Incumbents may be cross‑trained and perform any combination of the following responsibilities.

  • Manage and develop the plumbing staff, including hiring, terminating, disciplining, scheduling, setting priorities, conducting meetings, counseling, evaluating performance, and directing assignments to ensure effective production.
  • Establish and maintain departmental operating policies, procedures, and budgets.
  • Interface with builders, contractors, homeowners, architects, building inspectors, and project managers to identify service needs and maintain customer relations.
  • Evaluate workload and schedule installation and service work to maximize manpower and profits.
  • Resolve customer issues and complaints to ensure satisfaction.
  • Communicate regularly with plumbing staff to provide estimates, resolve problems, and close sales.
  • Ensure materials and equipment are ordered and dispensed for scheduled jobs; oversee inventory control.
  • Set up pricing structures; review bid proposals and discuss bids with estimator as needed.
  • Drive to job sites to monitor production, efficiency, and quality control.
  • Generate reports and metrics on departmental operations and inventory, and review them with management.
  • Instruct crews on proper use of materials and quality workmanship.
  • Stay in touch with service technicians and installation crews to assist with unexpected needs.
  • Review payroll records to ensure technicians are paid properly.
  • Assist dispatch to ensure appropriate technician selection for each service type.
  • Conduct job site surveys; verify completion and documentation.
  • Set up plumbing inspections, oversee permitting, and arrange for bonds.
  • Collect past‑due accounts receivable.
  • Complete employee accident forms, property damage forms, and investigate claims.
  • Ensure employees have proper tools and that they are maintained.
  • Evaluate fleet and equipment for functioning and availability; monitor preventive maintenance of vehicles.
  • Determine training requirements; provide on‑the‑job training and support.
  • Oversee facility and equipment maintenance to protect and control assets.
  • Manage drain service operations.
  • Manage the fleet department.
  • Hold Master Plumber licensure for the service center, if applicable.
  • Coordinate work with subcontractors as needed.
  • Maintain an organized, clean and safe work area.
  • Ensure personnel observe safety and company rules, wearing issued safety equipment.
  • Follow all safety and company rules and regulations.
  • Follow the guidelines for the Senior Cares, Ethics, and Quality Assurance Process.
  • Follow all guidelines in the Plumbing and Sewer Sales Policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A High School diploma or GED is required with 6‑8 years of journeyman‑level experience in plumbing.
  • Related experience and/or advanced training or any equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Unrestricted Journeyman license and knowledge of local and national plumbing code is preferred but not required.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of general industry standards and strong supervisory, computer, and mathematical skills.
  • Strong communication and human relations skills are required.
