Under the direction of the General Manager, the Plant Area Manager is responsible for day‑to‑day site operations, including supervising the packing, blending, and pulling operations to meet company service and cost objectives. The role involves planning production and volume, communicating with customers, managing space utilization, and overseeing equipment. People‑management duties include hiring, training, labor planning, performance appraisals, and problem resolution.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operations Management- Ensure development of systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment, and products safely and profitably.
- Manage operations to meet productivity and service goals and comply with client SLAs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and propose cost‑saving measures.
- Meet client‑specified KPIs and quality system requirements.
- Apply sound communication, motivation, and disciplinary techniques to supervise the team fairly and equitably.
- Collaborate with Human Resources on hiring, training, and professional development programs.
- Keep senior management and client representatives informed of critical operational issues.
- Plan daily work schedules, review work orders and customer instructions, and assign duties to warehouse staff.
- Determine space requirements and adjust staffing or supplies accordingly.
- Ensure effective training and adherence to SOPs.
- Maintain high motivation and customer satisfaction focus among team members.
- Provide ongoing growth and development opportunities for staff.
- Conduct routine staff meetings to review daily and weekly activities.
- Ensure all team members are trained and efficient in required information systems.
- Ensure necessary computer software and hardware purchases comply with Corporate IT policies.
- Stay informed on hardware and software technology changes.
- Develop proficiency in client systems.
- Maintain high‑level customer service standards for all functions.
- Provide operational and administrative support to client accounts.
- Maintain contact with all functions and respond to requests.
- Attend or lead meetings with key customers to discuss issues.
- Coordinate management of supplier/customer site visits.
- Promote positive client relationships through excellent service.
- Support development of the annual operating budget.
- Manage controls to ensure service level and performance goals are met within cost, revenue, and profit parameters.
- Ensure budgeting and pricing activities comply with contract guidelines.
- Maintain company standards for sanitation, maintenance, security, housekeeping, safety, and equipment.
- Ensure team members are trained on material handling equipment.
- Keep informed of relevant new technology and make recommendations.
- Achieve company injury frequency rating (IFR) goals and foster a proactive safety culture.
- Audit warehouse for compliance with safety, security, and quality principles.
- Ensure adherence to federal, provincial, or statutory health and safety requirements.
- Work overtime as required by business needs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Manage warehouse operations supervisors and support staff.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 7 years of experience in logistics/distribution or related environment.
- 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Ability to work in unregulated warehouse temperatures.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of applicable WMS systems.
- English reading, writing, verbal.
- Business communication proficiency at all levels.
- Strong attention to detail and timely task completion.
- Good organizational, personnel, written, and oral communication skills.
- Leadership, supervision, and planning abilities.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends.
- Participate in cross‑training metrics activities.
- Adapt effectively to change in a fast‑paced environment.
Occasionally: handling/fingering, sitting.
Frequently: bending.
Constantly: walking and standing.
Ability to lift/push/pull 21-50 pounds; reach above shoulder, outward, squat, or kneel.
