HDD Inspector
Full‑time position with CCI & Associates Inc., a leading multidisciplinary engineering firm based in Houston, Texas.
Job HighlightsThe HDD inspector serves as the client’s representative on each site, upholding client safety standards, environmental policies, and construction specifications on HDD sites.
The role involves enhancing construction efficiency, identifying potential execution issues early, and working with an industry‑leading team within CCI. The position offers exposure to North America’s largest oil and gas owners.
LocationHouston, Texas
Accountabilities- Act as the client’s representative on site in a professional manner.
- Review, monitor and report all applicable contract documents, codes, standards and legislation that apply to the scope of work and specifically the task being executed.
- Participate in the contractor’s daily safety meetings, including Job Safety Analyses, conduct CCI‑specific JSAs, and complete daily inspection and HSE reports.
- Issue and monitor work authorization permits, documents complete with photographs, site and work activities, and collect as‑built information.
- Monitor the contractor’s adherence to the HDD design and report any deviations to CCI’s Construction Manager.
- Report on rates of penetration, bit and reamer changes, steering corrections, lost‑circulation attempts and adjustments to the drilling plan, drill path changes, and operational changes.
- Conduct a detailed safety checklist to ensure that the contractor’s equipment meets industry safety standards and that all equipment has the proper certifications.
- Supervise the contractor in the work pad and access development, including equipment towing.
- Monitor survey and centerline slashing for coil setup.
- Complete the HDD daily inspection report, HDD drilling fluid report, and HDD steering report on a daily basis and keep accurate records within the CCI job binder.
- Coordinate the emergency response plan, orientations, collection of contractor employees’ training certificates and contact list.
- Keep track and record water withdrawal permits for construction.
- Act as a liaison between the construction manager(s) and drilling contractor for any issues during the project.
- Where required, collect samples of soils and/or cuttings for analysis.
- Perform mud checks multiple times per day, including measuring mud weight, viscosity and sand content, and report findings in the CCI‑provided mud report.
- Perform other duties and exercise powers as assigned by the Company, subject to reasonable changes in duties, position, location or compensation.

- Minimum five years experience in HDD inspection or management.
- Formal education is an asset but not required.
- Experience using Microsoft Excel for reporting.
- Must complete all required safety training and tickets for each project within three days of offer acceptance or before mobilization to site. Required courses include, but are not limited to: H2S, OSHA 30, First Aid, CPR, confined‑space, API 1169.
