The
Assistant Dean of Students for Student Conduct
is a key member of the Division of Student Affairs and plays a central role in cultivating a safe, thriving, and student-centered campus environment. This position oversees the student conduct process, ensures consistent application of the Student Code of Conduct, and promotes an educational and restorative approach to student accountability.
The Assistant Dean is instrumental in shaping community expectations and influencing what it means to be a Lane College student—helping elevate the institution to its Next Level of Excellence.
Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Conduct Administration
Oversee daily operations of the student conduct system, including receiving reports, adjudicating cases, and ensuring fair resolution.
Serve as a primary hearing officer for alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct.
Maintain confidential and accurate conduct records using Advocate by Symplicity or a similar case-management system.
Train and advise faculty, staff, and student conduct board members on conduct processes and expectations.
Collaborate closely with Campus Safety and Security, Housing and Residence Life, Counseling and Student Support Services, Title IX, and Academic Affairs to address student behavioral issues.
Education, Prevention, and Community StandardsLead initiatives that promote ethical behavior, personal accountability, and strong community values.
Develop and implement educational sanctions, workshops, and restorative practices.
Provide outreach to students, faculty, and staff on behavioral expectations and the Lane College community experience.
Create programs that define, uplift, and elevate what it means to be a Lane College student.
Institutional Excellence and Culture BuildingServe as a culture builder by helping students embody the College's core values and standards of excellence.
Champion initiatives that elevate the student experience, strengthen campus climate, and contribute to institutional distinction.
Assist the Dean of Students in promoting a unified vision of student success and community pride.
Compliance and Risk ManagementSupport Clery Act compliance and required reporting associated with student conduct cases.
Serve on campus committees focused on safety, student well-being, and behavior intervention.
Ensure conduct processes meet accreditation and institutional effectiveness expectations.
Student Affairs and Campus SupportParticipate in Student Affairs initiatives, training, orientation activities, crisis response, and on-call duty rotation.
Provide mentoring, case management, and supportive interventions for students.
Support retention and student success efforts by addressing barriers related to behavior, well-being, and academic engagement.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Students or Vice President for Student Affairs.
Minimum QualificationsMaster's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Criminal Justice, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field.
Minimum 2 years of professional experience in student conduct, student affairs, residence life, or related area.
Knowledge of student development theory, conduct administration, and relevant federal regulations (FERPA, Clery Act, Title IX).
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations.
Demonstrated ability to manage confidential matters with discretion.
Experience handling conflict, crisis situations, or behavioral interventions.
Preferred Requirements3–5 years of direct student conduct experience.
Proficiency with Advocate by Symplicity or a similar conduct case management system.
Prior experience at an HBCU or working with student populations typically served by HBCUs.
Training or certification in restorative justice, mediation, conflict resolution, or behavioral threat assessment.
Experience conducting investigations or formal hearings in higher education.
Demonstrated excellence in developing and delivering educational programs.
Strong understanding of trends in student behavior, community standards, and conduct best practices.
