Adjunct Instructor in Chemistry

Adjunct Instructors in the Department of Chemistry are responsible for teaching undergraduate chemistry laboratory sections.

Teaching responsibilities include introductory chemistry courses for science majors, courses for non‑science majors, and advanced chemistry laboratory sections on the Jackson, Tennessee, campus.

• Undergraduate degree with major or minor in chemistry plus substantial relevant laboratory experience.
• Knowledge of all basic concepts encountered in undergraduate chemistry courses.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to relate well to students and clearly explain topics.
• Good working knowledge of common laboratory equipment and statistics related to the chemical sciences.
• Broad understanding of basic chemical principles.

• Effective speaking and hearing ability for in‑person or telephone communication.
• Ability to walk from office to classroom and between campus buildings.
• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods (1–3 hours) during classes.
• Ability to lift and carry files and materials, including occasional lifting up to 10 lbs.
• Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to read words and numbers and interact with people in person, on the phone, through a computer, and in writing.
• Ability to reach with hands and arms; use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls, including operating a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
