Job SummaryThe Department of Chemistry at Union University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Chemistry, beginning fall 2026. The ideal candidate will have a background in inorganic chemistry. Successful candidates will be prepared to teach introductory chemistry and inorganic chemistry (lectures and labs), organic chemistry labs, and advanced topics in chemistry. Ability to teach analytical chemistry and previous teaching experience at the college level are pluses.
Course offerings, including the variable-by-design “Advanced Topics in Chemistry” course, may be developed in line with the candidate’s scholarly interests. College faculty are expected to produce scholarship, participate in advising, and serve the department and university. Rank assignment will be commensurate with education and experience. - Teach a full-time course load (24 credit hours) including upper- and lower-division courses.
- Assign grades, maintain records in accordance with FERPA regulations, and keep regular on‑campus office hours.
- Advise chemistry and biochemistry students in their academic and career paths, including regular meetings to plan registration and assess progress.
- Contribute to student learning outcomes in the capstone research sequence by mentoring research students in developing, collecting, analyzing, and presenting original scientific research.
- Maintain a program of scholarship in line with the department’s definition of scholarship, including public dissemination of scholarly and creative works.
- Work with other chemistry faculty and staff on campus projects as needed.
- Participate in standing and ad‑hoc university committees in line with expectations for full‑time faculty.
- Attend and participate in departmental, divisional, and college‑wide meetings and events, including commencements and convocations.
- Participate enthusiastically in the life of the department through shared curriculum development, program planning, assessment, and other activities; cultivate meaningful community with colleagues, staff, and students.
- Teach introductory chemistry and inorganic chemistry (lectures and labs), organic chemistry labs, and advanced topics in chemistry; ability to teach analytical chemistry is a plus.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a terminal degree in chemistry is required (candidates currently pursuing a relevant advanced degree will be considered).
- Clear communication in person, on the phone, through a computer, and in writing.
- Ability to move independently between offices, classrooms, and campus buildings.
- Capacity to spend extended periods (1–3 hours) managing a classroom or laboratory independently.
- Daily instance of bending, stooping, and carrying items up to 25 pounds.
