Job Description
Position:
Teacher at Volunteer State Virtual Academy (VSVA). This is a full‑time, remote teaching role that strongly prefers candidates residing in Tennessee and accepts candidates from surrounding states who can attend in‑person professional development, testing, and other school events as required.
The Teacher is a state‑certified educator responsible for delivering state‑prescribed course content in an online environment, providing instruction, support, and guidance to students, and managing the learning process in a student‑centered way.
Responsibilities- Provide rich, engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
- Commit to personalizing learning and demonstrate a belief in all students’ ability to succeed.
- Differentiates instruction based on student mastery level.
- Augment course content using prescribed policies and appropriate tools under guidance from principal and coach.
- Maintain the grade book, ensuring academic integrity, making placement decisions, and alerting administrators to concerns.
- Prepare students for high‑stakes standardized tests.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with families, communicating regularly with students and learning coaches.
- Support learning coaches and parents with curricular or instructional issues and basic troubleshooting in a virtual classroom environment.
- Travel as required (average once per month and/or approximately 20% of the time) for face‑to‑face professional development, student testing, and other school duties.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Active state teaching license (Tennessee Elementary Teaching Certificate).
- Clear required background check.
- Experience working with the proposed age group.
- Experience supporting adults and children in using technology.
- Experience teaching in a virtual or brick‑and‑mortar environment.
- Familiarity with online learning platforms.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues to analyze and use student data for decision‑making.
- Receptive to coaching and ability to adapt to change for improving outcomes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint.
- Rapidly learn new technologies and platforms and maintain certification and professional development hours within K12 systems.
- Base salary of $50,000 per year, plus eligibility for a performance bonus.
- Compensation decisions consider education, experience, qualifications, location, travel, and market factors.
