Adjunct Instructor in Music - Voice
Union University seeks a qualified individual for the position of Adjunct Instructor in Music – Voice. Union University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
Founded in 1823, Union University is a private, coeducational liberal arts-based university offering Bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, with a total enrollment of about 2,600. The main campus is located in Jackson, Tenn., with additional campuses in Memphis and Hendersonville. Teaching responsibilities include primary and secondary applied voice for students in Music Education, Commercial Music, and Worship Leadership. Applied lessons for minors and elective voice students. This position requires the ability to perform and teach various styles including Classical, Commercial, Gospel, Jazz, Musical Theatre, and contemporary Worship music. The candidate should demonstrate ability in teaching and modeling belt singing technique. Ability to accompany students on piano from written music and charts/Nashville numbers is desired.
Opportunities to provide coaching, direction, and supervision for vocal ensembles may be available. Perform in Faculty Concerts and University ensembles as directed. Supervise Student Junior and Senior Recitals and Projects in voice. Other courses and additional duties may be assigned predicated on the interests, qualifications, and experiences of the applicant as well as on the departmental needs. Additional responsibilities encompass service to the department, university, and community along with appropriate scholarly activities.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in Vocal Performance, Commercial Voice, Vocal Jazz, or equivalent. Skill, ability, and stylistic adaptability to instruct students pursuing vocal studies in various degree tracks including Vocal Performance, Vocal Music Education, Worship Leadership, and Commercial Music. Live professional performance experience in commercial-based genres as well as classical solo vocal performance. Ability to work in a team leadership setting, strong collaborative skills, and experience teaching undergraduate-level group and private voice.
Demonstrate ability in teaching and modeling belt singing technique.
DMA or Ph.D. in Vocal Performance, Commercial Voice, Vocal Jazz, or equivalent. Demonstrated solo and choral performance experience in multiple styles, including Classical, Gospel, Jazz, Commercial styles, and contemporary Worship. University-level teaching experience in applied voice, vocal techniques, and pedagogy. Ability to accompany students on piano from written music and charts/Nashville Numbers. Ability to teach Music Theory and musicianship/aural skills courses a plus.
Worship ministry experience.

The work performed by this position is of a general office/administrative/teaching nature. It requires the ability to operate a computer, and communicate on the telephone and in writing. Work performed does require some walking on campus, extended periods of time sitting, and some daily instances of bending, stooping, and carrying items up to 25 pounds.
