School Age Services – Group Leader (Jackson, Madison)
This part‑time position supports the YMCA’s mission to strengthen community through youth development. In partnership with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the School Age Site Director, the Group Leader implements activities and executes lesson plans for before‑school, after‑school, and summer programs, fostering children’s social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth.
Essential Functions- Model the YMCA core values:
Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. - Set up and take down program space, ensuring a clean, organized, child‑friendly environment.
- Actively lead and engage a group of 15–20 children in activities, inside or outside the program area.
- Follow all safety standards and risk‑management policies to protect participants and staff.
- Assist in planning and implementing a quality curriculum that meets YMCA guidelines.
- Attend all staff meetings and in‑service training as required.
- Assist in managing supplies, inventory, and licensing standards at the site.
- Maintain positive relationships with YMCA personnel, administration, and school staff.
- Assist in maintaining citywide policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the Site Director.

- Enthusiastic personality and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Professional image, conflict‑resolution skills, sound judgment, and initiative.
- High level of organization and ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Completion of all required state and school‑district background checks and fingerprint clearances.
- Minimum age 18 and high‑school diploma or equivalent.

Flexible, split‑shift schedule that may vary for before‑ and after‑school sites. Availability required for: before school (6:30 am to start of school), after school (end of school to 6:30 pm), or a combination of both.

- Climbing, sitting, reaching, crouching, crawling, standing, pushing, walking, kneeling, and stooping.
- Exposure to electrical/mechanical mechanisms, chemicals, and extreme weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Noise level typically minimal to moderate.
- Requires elevated administrative permissions to systems storing sensitive information.
- Access to sensitive and confidential information.
- Periodic system audits of all activities performed.
- Protection of privileged information regarding organizational changes, staffing, or security events.
- Disciplinary action, up to termination, for noncompliance with security duties.
