Overview

Street Legal is currently seeking a Human Health and Environmental Risk Assessment Programmer to join our project in Oak Ridge, TN.

The Human Health and Environmental Risk Assessment Programmer supports the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and reports to the Director of Federal Services. This position is 100% on‑site.

Remote Status: On‑Site

Responsibilities
  • TASK 1: RAIS Online Computational Tool Development (New Tools)
  • Provide programming support to design, implement, and deploy new online computational tools for the Risk Assessment Information System (RAIS) to support human health and environmental risk assessment applications relevant to radiological and chemical environmental assessments of the Oak Ridge Reservation.
  • Primary duties include: gathering and confirming functional requirements with the ORNL RAIS technical lead/project manager; developing new web‑accessible computational tools consistent with RAIS architecture; implementing calculation logic aligned with established risk assessment methods/models and risk frameworks; developing supporting documentation (e.g., assumptions, inputs/outputs); and supporting testing and deployment activities.
  • TASK 2:
    Upgrade Existing RAIS Tools to Leverage GPU‑Based AI Serving Capabilities
  • The Contractor will enhance and modernize existing RAIS computational tools to integrate and/or take advantage of new GPU‑based AI serving capabilities to improve data recall, summarization, and integration into human health and environmental risk assessment workflows.
  • Primary duties include: reviewing current RAIS tools targeted for enhancement; implementing integration points for AI‑enabled features as directed by the ORNL RAIS technical lead/project manager; optimizing software components to support GPU‑based services where appropriate; maintaining compatibility with RAIS operational requirements; and supporting validation, troubleshooting, and release.
  • RAIS Tool Software:
    New and updated RAIS computational tools, including all associated source code and deployed tool components (as applicable).
  • AI/GPU Integration:
    Integration components and required configuration files to enable/operate GPU‑based AI serving capabilities within RAIS (as applicable).
  • Documentation & Verification:
    Tool technical documentation (inputs, outputs, methods/assumptions) plus implementation/change log, release notes, and verification/testing results.
Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate in engineering (preferred) or related science OR 4 years job‑related nuclear experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong communication, verbal, and written skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical and regulatory issues.
  • Ability to work independently.
