Overview
X-energy and Triso-X are looking for an engineering leader to provide management support to an engineering group responsible for developing methods to process and disposition all waste streams generated by the TRISO-X Facility, a nuclear fuel fabrication facility designed to manufacture TRISO coated‑particle fuel forms. The role directs the work of individual contributors, supports resource and organizational needs of the Waste & Recovery team, and supports design, licensing, construction, and operation of the facility.
Nuclear experience is not required for this position.
- Support the execution of developing methods to process and disposition all waste streams generated by the TRISO-X Facility, adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program/project requirements.
- Waste packaging.
- Waste shipment.
- Waste treatment.
- Wastewater holding tanks.
- Wastewater sampling.
- Wastewater treatment.
- Waste monitoring and surveying.
- Interface with and provide support to waste permitting.
- Work with commercial nondestructive assay equipment (NDA) manufacturers to develop/procure/implement NDA systems to support disposition of waste streams potentially contaminated with low enriched uranium.
- Create and continually update a master list of all waste streams in the TRISO-X Facility.
- Support the design and licensing of the TRISO-X Facility.
- Manage the utilization of engineering resources across multiple projects and ensure qualified engineers are performing assigned work.
- Lead design cycle sprints and provide direction to ensure the convergence of efforts of engineering team members, partners, and suppliers, delivering high‑quality engineering work products on schedule and within budget.
- May manage Waste & Recovery staff, ensuring staff meet expectations and promoting professional development.
- Influence and support the development of strategy, methodology, and technical tools for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and policy formulation.
- Work within a multidisciplinary engineering team to create next‑generation nuclear reactor technologies.
- Perform work in accordance with design control procedures, ensuring thorough documentation, facilitation of internal and external design reviews, and control of product design configuration data.
- Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or related discipline from an accredited university or college.
- Typically, seven plus years of relevant engineering experience after completion of undergraduate study (graduate degrees generally count as two plus years).
- Experience leading engineering projects.
- Willingness to work with hazardous materials such as low enriched uranium, nitric acid, and phenolic resin.
- Strong chemistry background to understand concentrations and chemical hazards present in waste streams.
- Knowledge of and experience with manufacturing facility design and lean manufacturing approaches.
- Experience in design of chemical processing equipment or related systems.
- Understanding of waste permitting in the state of Tennessee.

Travel: 10%
Hours:
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday
Salary Range: $104,500 – $165,000 (based on experience and qualifications)
