SummaryThe Project Engineer supports field activities and spends a majority of time working with the Project Manager supporting project administration on multiple small projects, or one medium to large‑size projects. Activities include managing the job transition process; supporting cost and schedule, constructability, technical evaluations, quality, safety, work planning, procurement, contract management, regulatory compliance, and related tasks.
Roles and Responsibilities- Generates and obtains approvals of monthly billing and earned values
- Develops and manages the project schedule on small or mid‑sized projects
- Analyzes targets and goals, job cost summaries, and other reports
- Alerts the Superintendent and Project Manager of project impact relating to resource management, crew make‑up/size, etc.
- Generates and obtains approval of the initial budget and subsequent updates, reviews weekly job cost summaries and advises the Project Manager
- Generates estimates of change orders and may interface with pre‑construction on original bids
- Collaborates with pre‑construction and the project team to manage the job transition process, communicate project requirements, and develop the initial procurement plans, budgets, etc.
- Generates material quantity take‑offs, scoping documents, terms and conditions, delivery, etc. as applicable to support the procurement process
- Generates requests for proposal(s), solicits and reviews quotations, and recommends a procurement decision to Project Manager
- Prepares field purchase orders for standard purchase packages, and generates and obtains approval of Major Purchase Orders
- Gathers and roughs‑in monthly financial reports, and participates in the project financial reviews
- Works with the Project Manager to approve and code project invoices
- Generates and obtains approval of technical records such as constructability reports, RFIs, inspection records, work packages and deviation reports
- Coordinates with the Superintendent, Field Project Engineer, and Line and Grade to generate required as‑built records
- Manages work package closure, punch lists, and project turnover process and approves pre‑ and post‑pour checklists
- Collects necessary documentation to identify and determine impact of potential contract changes, disputes, and claims
- Leads LEAN/SQP committee and identifies improvement opportunities
- Ensures all subcontractors are in compliance with terms of subcontracts, generates, and obtains approval on impact notices as needed
- Reviews and confirms reports documenting compliance (Company and subcontractors) with prevailing wage, workforce utilization, MBE/SBE participation, etc., and advises the Project Manager of issues
- Interfaces with Safety and Risk Management in establishing clinics, managing first report of injuries, and assisting with co‑worker case management
- Follows Company Recruitment and Hiring Guidelines
- May conduct new‑hire orientation and process E‑Verify (must be certified)
- May coordinate tracking and completion of training requirements with project management
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 2 years of experience or 6 years of construction‑related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft software programs such as Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, and government regulations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
- Ability to communicate well with all levels of workers involved with the project
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, and trigonometry to practical situations
- Ability to analyze and compute mathematical differences from all stages of drawings from conceptual to final drawings including development of shop drawings, Ability to understand Cost Accounting
- Basic understanding of construction software such as Primavera, Timberline, Vista and the like
- Ability to understand, customize and modify spreadsheets
- Ability to direct work and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of co‑workers
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to define problems, collect information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to develop construction schedule via the critical path method
- Ability to understand contracts, specifications, drawings, and scope of work
- Ability to be proactive in maximizing our return on investment at all times
