Temporary Music Arranger & Assistant Band Director Department:

Position Overview The Temporary Music Arranger & Assistant Band Director supports the overall musical, educational, and administrative operations of the college band program. This role combines creative arranging responsibilities with hands-on instructional leadership, assisting the Band Director in rehearsals, performances, student development, and program coordination. The ideal candidate is musically versatile, highly organized, and committed to fostering a positive, high-achieving band culture.

Key Responsibilities Music Arranging & Composition Arrange music for marching band, pep band, concert ensembles, and small groups as needed.

Adapt existing charts for varying skill levels and instrumentation.

Collaborate with the Band Director to develop musical concepts, show themes, and performance repertoire.

Prepare scores and parts in a clear, professional format.

Instructional & Rehearsal Support Assist with leading full-band rehearsals and sectionals.

Provide musical and technical guidance to students across all sections.

Support the development of student leaders, including drum majors, section leaders, and ensemble captains.

Offer feedback on musicality, marching technique, and performance readiness.

Performance & Event Support Attend and assist with all major performances, including games, exhibitions, parades, and special events.

Help coordinate logistics such as equipment setup, music distribution, and ensemble organization.

Contribute to show planning, drill coordination, and performance execution.

Administrative & Program Support Assist with communication with students, staff, and campus partners.

Support recruitment efforts, including outreach to prospective students and local high schools.

Uphold program standards for professionalism, attendance, and conduct.

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in music, Music Education, or related field (master’s preferred)
Demonstrated experience in music arranging for marching or concert ensembles.

Strong proficiency with notation software (Finale, Sibelius, Muse Score, etc.).Experience working with college, high school, or community band programs.

Effective communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Ability to work evenings, weekends, and game-day schedules as required.

Work Schedule & Compensation Part-time position; hours vary by season and performance schedule.
