SUMMARY / OBJECTIVES

The Universal Banker serves as a full service, single point of contact in the branch for South State customers’ financial needs. The position operates in dual capacity of a Teller and FSR providing exceptional customer service in transactional and account management. The Universal Banker seeks to attract, expand, and retain customer relationships and contributes to the financial growth of the bank.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS

Serves customers quickly, accurately, efficiently, and confidentially according to the South State Bank Service Standards.

  • Knows and understands the products and services offered by the Bank, including facts, features, benefits, regulations and pricing.
  • Identifies customer needs and expectations by listening for clues.
  • Opens opportunities to expand customer relationships through referrals as outlined in the goals.
  • Maintains a neat and professional personal appearance in accordance with bank policy.
  • Ensures compliance with all banking regulations including Regulation CC and Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Develops a strong understanding of customer‑facing technology and enrolls customers in self‑service options.
Teller Duties
  • Processes transactions for savings, checking, and loan accounts.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
  • May assist in guiding and training new tellers.
  • Allows customers access to safe deposit boxes, cashes checks and processes savings withdrawals within assigned limits.
  • Sells certified checks, balances transactions daily, and may service/balance ATM.
  • Utilizes the branch capture system and follows policies and procedures to minimize operational errors.
  • Adheres to branch security and audit procedures.
FSR Duties
  • Opens new deposit accounts and handles services such as stop payments, wire transfers, and account maintenance within assigned limits.
  • Explains policies and procedures to customers.
  • Resolves customer problems and complaints with courtesy and discretion, directing them to other sources when necessary.
  • Sees problems and complaints as opportunities to satisfy the customer and promote additional services.
  • Shows sincere appreciation for each customer’s time and business, providing business cards when needed.
  • Maintains accurate, timely records and correspondence related to customer development attempts.
Floating Universal Banker Functions
  • One year of teller or cash handling experience and six months of customer relationship building or sales experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the Teller II and basic FSR job functions.
  • Can take on vault or back‑up vault responsibilities.
  • Floats to different offices in an area to accommodate staffing needs.
  • Can perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Education, and Certification Requirements
  • Education:

    High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience:

    Cash handling, sales, customer service; previous banking experience preferred.
  • Specific Knowledge:
    Good interpersonal and computer skills; ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

  • Additional training may be required depending on experience.
Physical Demands

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand and/or sit for long periods, and effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, reports, and cash denominations.

Work Environment

Position is most likely located in an open lobby area in a cooled and heated facility.

Travel

Travel may be required for meetings or training as needed.
