The Chief Deposit Officer (CDO) is responsible for the strategic leadership, growth, and profitability of the bank’s deposit franchise. This executive develops and executes strategies to attract, retain, and deepen core deposit relationships across retail, commercial, and municipal segments while maintaining a strong focus on cost of funds, liquidity stability, and relationship banking.
The CDO leads deposit sales strategy, treasury management growth, branch performance, product development, and customer experience initiatives to support the bank’s overall growth objectives. The role partners closely with lending, credit, finance, and operations leadership to ensure a balanced and sustainable funding strategy.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to grow core deposits across consumer, business, and public fund segments.
- Establish annual deposit growth goals aligned with the bank’s strategic plan.
- Identify market opportunities for deposit expansion in the bank’s footprint.
- Lead initiatives to increase relationship depth and primary bank status with customers.
- Drive growth of treasury management products including:
- ACH services
- Cash management
- Partner with commercial lenders to deepen commercial relationships and improve deposit capture.
- Establish treasury management as a key revenue and relationship driver.
- Provide leadership to branch banking teams to improve:
- cross‑selling
- operational efficiency
- Evaluate branch performance and optimize branch network strategy.
- Develop sales culture within retail teams focused on relationship banking.
- Oversee development and management of deposit products including:
- checking
- savings
- money market
- CDs
- specialty accounts
- Work with ALCO and finance to manage deposit pricing strategy and cost of funds.
- Monitor competitor pricing and market trends.
- Collaborate with the CFO and ALCO to manage the bank’s funding mix.
- Ensure deposit growth supports loan growth and liquidity targets.
- Monitor concentration risk within the deposit portfolio.
- Lead initiatives to enhance customer onboarding, service delivery, and retention.
- Champion digital banking tools and modern banking experiences.
- Develop programs to improve customer satisfaction and engagement.
- Build and lead high-performing teams across retail banking and treasury management.
- Establish clear sales goals and accountability standards.
- Recruit, train, and develop future leaders within the deposit franchise.
- Ensure deposit and treasury operations comply with all applicable regulatory requirements.
- Maintain strong controls related to BSA/AML, fraud mitigation, and operational risk.
- Participate in regulatory examinations related to deposit and treasury activities.
- Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team.
- Contribute to long‑term strategic planning for growth and profitability.
- Present deposit performance and strategy updates to executive management and the board.

- 10+ years of banking experience with significant leadership responsibility in deposit strategy, retail banking, or treasury management
- Experience leading deposit growth in a community or regional bank
- Proven success developing treasury management relationships with commercial clients
- Experience managing branch networks and sales culture preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field required
- MBA or banking school (e.g., Graduate School of Banking) preferred
- Strategic thinking and execution
- Strong understanding of deposit pricing and liquidity management
- Sales leadership and relationship management
- Knowledge of treasury management services
