Opportunity in Jackson, TennesseeJoin a clinic in Jackson with experienced team support and patient care across geriatrics to pediatrics. Periodic travel and on-call rotations may be required to service hospitals within a 70-mile radius. The clinic fabricates onsite with technicians to assist with modifications and adjustments.
Your RoleAs a Prosthetist and/or Orthotist, you will assess patients, formulate treatment plans, implement and follow up, and participate in practice management. If you have not yet achieved certification, you will provide care under supervision by a certified clinician. You will combine clinical and technical skills to design, fabricate and fit prostheses and/or orthoses, collaborating with the rehabilitation team and leveraging latest technology to empower patient outcomes.
YourResponsibilities
- Collaborate with physicians in evaluating a patient’s need for prosthetic and/or orthotic services; recommend treatment options when necessary.
- Examine and evaluate patient needs in relation to disease and functional loss.
- Formulate design of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices.
- Select materials, take cast measurements, model modifications, and layouts with current techniques and materials.
- Perform fitting, including static and dynamic alignments.
- Evaluate devices on the patient, adjust for fit, function, medical efficacy, and quality of work.
- Instruct patients in the use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices.
- Identify and resolve issues to ensure patient satisfaction with devices provided.
- Provide follow-up with patients and physicians.
- Offer in-service training to physicians and allied health care professionals.
- Utilize materials management, quality and performance processes to maximize device quality while balancing costs and performance.
- Meet with physicians, case managers and referral sources to review services and expand business relationships for referrals.
- Plan and implement strategies to meet and exceed revenue targets in coordination with management.
- Provide detailed clinical notes to patient records.
- Mentor residents or newly certified clinicians when applicable.
- Assist other clinical staff and provide information to administrative staff for reimbursement activities.
- Adhere to safety regulations and comply with Medicare and other governmental regulations, including blood borne and OSHA requirements.
- Perform other duties or special projects as assigned; may be asked to be on-call, hospital calls, or float between multiple clinic locations.
- Current board certification in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics from the American Board for Certification (ABC) or the Board of Certification (BOC), or
- A bachelor’s degree in prosthetics and/or orthotics (or foreign equivalent) and current ABC Board-Eligibility in Prosthetics and/or Orthotics.
- Valid driver’s license and driving record within Hanger’s policy standards.
- In states where licensure is required, ability to obtain and maintain state licensure.
- Willingness to consider candidates who are certified in one discipline and pursuing residency in the other, or those with significant supervised experience.
- Strong understanding of biomechanics, gait analysis, kinesiology, anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge of componentry suitability and reliability for specific uses.
- Medical terminology proficiency and effective communication skills for patients and staff.
- Ability to instruct clinical and non-clinical personnel and customers on patient care objectives.
- Active listening and comprehension to analyze reports and correspondence.
- Ability to assess patient condition and advise physicians on treatment options.
