We are seeking an organized, detail-oriented HR Generalist to support the State of Tennessee’s Department of General Services (DGS) in Nashville, TN.
The HR Generalist will play an essential role in supporting daily human resources operations and ensuring the accurate, timely, and consistent delivery of HR services throughout the employee lifecycle. This position encompasses recruitment, onboarding, personnel transactions, payroll and timekeeping coordination, employee relations support, and offboarding.
The successful candidate will work closely with the HR Director, department employees, hiring managers, and HR partners to maintain accurate employee records, coordinate HR processes, and deliver professional customer service.
This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to manage competing priorities, and discretion when handling confidential employee information.
Key Responsibilities HR Operations & Personnel Administration- Prepare, process, review, and track personnel transactions, including new hires, promotions, transfers, separations, retirements, and position changes.
- Maintain accurate employee records, HR documentation, and tracking systems.
- Coordinate HR administrative processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely completion.
- Assist with payroll and timekeeping coordination, including resolving routine employee inquiries and discrepancies.
- Support compliance with applicable HR policies, procedures, and departmental requirements.
- Support recruitment activities, including job postings, hiring documentation, interview materials, and communication with hiring managers.
- Coordinate hiring activities with internal HR partners and relevant stakeholders.
- Facilitate new employee onboarding, orientation, and completion of required employment documentation.
- Ensure new employees receive appropriate information, resources, and guidance throughout the onboarding process.
- Track onboarding activities and follow up on outstanding requirements.
- Serve as a point of contact for routine employee and manager inquiries regarding HR policies, benefits, leave, payroll, and personnel procedures.
- Provide accurate, timely, and professional responses to employee requests.
- Coordinate with HR partners to address employee questions and resolve administrative issues.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information.
- Coordinate employee separations, retirements, and other offboarding activities.
- Ensure required documentation and personnel transactions are completed accurately and on time.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to facilitate smooth employee transitions.
- Assist the HR Director with special projects, employee communications, and departmental HR initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve administrative workflows and HR service delivery.
- Develop and maintain tracking tools, reports, and documentation to support HR operations.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient completion of HR activities.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience Substitution- Qualifying full-time professional or paraprofessional human resources experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four years.
