Job Summary

The person employed in this capacity will perform his/her duties under the direction of the Senior Center Director. To keep the building and grounds neat, attractive and safe for the general public, as well as for the employees of the City of Jackson.

Essential Job Functions
  • Clean break room and all other kitchen areas. Refrigerators and microwaves should be kept clean and clear of fingerprints, etc.
  • Coffeepots should be washed regularly and coffee areas kept clean and well supplied.
  • Vacuum carpeted areas and clean baseboards.
  • Empty wastebaskets.
  • Check carpeted areas for spills and spot clean when needed.
  • Sweep parking garage and pick up debris/trash.
  • Change light bulbs when necessary.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms - showers (walls and floors), toilets, urinals, stall partitions, walls of rooms, and floors. Replenish soap, tissues, towels, etc. Clean mirrors. Empty trashcans and receptacles.
  • Sweep/dust mop, wet mop and wax all non‑carpeted floors including sides and corners to prevent dust/wax build‑up.
  • Dust mini‑blinds.
  • Clean all glass (doors, walls, dividers, etc.)
  • Clean all windows once a month inside and out where reachable.
  • Clean all locked areas in the basement monthly.
  • Other duties as requested by supervisor.
Tools/Equipment
  • Floor buffers, steam cleaners, carpet cleaners, mops, broom, vacuum, and dusting equipment.
Required Education, Degrees, Certificates, And/Or License
  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Driver's License
Experience, Training, Knowledge And Skills
  • Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in custodial work;
    Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs;
    Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships.

  • Must be available to work from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
