Jackson Madison County School System has an immediate opening for a Registered Nurse (RN) to work as assigned in the school district. This position requires active licensure as an RN for the state of Tennessee in order to be considered a qualified candidate. This position reports directly to the Coordinated School Health Administrator. FLSA status is Non-Exempt. Terms of employment is a 200-day contract subject to renewal at end of term.

Pay is based on a district scale and is commensurate with relevant education, experience and certifications.

Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN), working in a school setting has the role of enhancing the educational process by improving and protecting the health and well-being of students by applying their nursing skills. The RN promotes and implements the standards of school nursing practices established by the profession.

Required Education / Certification / Endorsement:
Currently hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee Minimum Associates Degree in Nursing with 2 years' experience as an RN. Knowledge of growth and development and health problems and/or conditions commonly seen among school age children Knowledge of the treatment and nursing care of children with health care needs Current CPR certification Valid driver's license Access to reliable transportation on a regular basis.

Essential Functions:

Provide wellness support, health promotion and counseling services to staff and students as beneficial Health Education Provides training and supervision of LPN's providing health services in the school setting Provide emergency care for students and staff Provide expertise in illness and injury prevention Case Management of children with chronic / acute illnesses; treat or refer as needed Evaluate children with chronic / acute illnesses;

treat or refer as needed Provide education and training to teachers who have chronically ill children in their classroom with conditions that might warrant emergency treatment Authorize exclusion and readmission of students with contagious infections and illnesses Perform health screens as indicated by the Coordinated School Health model, refer and follow up assessments as needed Provide home visits, if necessary Develop the Individual Health Plan (IHP), as mandated by the state of Tennessee for children with chronic medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, sickle cell, and cardiac disease Monitor cumulative health records of students including immunizations audits and advises principal and/or parent of deficient records Provides classes for students and faculty on health issues as requested Provides training for persons designated by the principal to assist in administration of medications at the school level, including those medications to be dispensed daily as ordered by a physician and emergency medications as warranted such as glucagon and epinephrine.

Demonstrate competence in carrying out nursing tasks and duties Continued education to keep current in treatment and care of children in the school setting Supervision and oversight of LPN's servicing the general student population Other responsibilities or duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor
