Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:

The Quality Assurance Technician will ensure that laboratory equipment, procedures and systems are maintained and calibrated to provide the highest degree of accuracy possible. Support new product development through assisting in the lab during trials and performing age study testing as required. Maintain laboratory consumables inventory and address the needs of the lab testers.

This position has no direct reports but is responsible for indirect supervision of the labs.

JOB

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote and support highest levels of safety and quality, both personally and with others, throughout daily activities.
  • Laboratory controls:
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and standards.
  • Identify trends and irregularities in product data.
  • Maintain laboratory consumables inventory.
  • Address the needs and/or concerns of personnel conducting product testing.
  • Training and qualification:
  • Provide required annual training to the lab testers.
  • Conduct measurement systems analysis of product test methods.
  • Expected to be QAKE Audit Trained and/or equivalent.
  • Administrative:
  • Review laboratory test methods for completeness and accuracy.
  • Review raw material Certificates of Analysis for lot acceptance.
  • Enter data as needed into Quality databases.
  • Maintain list of PO’s submitted for all lab related purchases.
  • Generate and transmit Certificates of Analysis to the customers.
  • This position is part of a required weekend/holiday COA and on‑call coverage rotation.
  • Support:
  • Provide testing support as needed during development activities.
  • Perform co‑op testing with customer labs and other Berry sites.
  • Cut down film rolls for through‑roll quality measurements.
  • Maintain QA retains for the NATN site and dispose of those that have reached expiration date.
Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Technical training in plastics, laboratory testing, computer systems or ISO
    9001 Quality Systems is a plus.
  • Experience:

    Two years laboratory testing or comprehensive Quality Assurance experience required. Hands‑on experience with material testing equipment is preferred. Basic computer skills required. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Access a plus.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge of all basic office machines (telephone, fax, and copier) is required. Knowledge of Quality Windows, Microsoft Office software running on a personal computer is also required. Knowledge of computer network systems, automated material testing and data transfer is a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in the operating areas, laboratories and office areas of the Berry Nashville Site.

EFFORT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Minimal lifting requirements. Position requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail and organizational skills. Good oral and written communication skills are required. Excellent organizational skills are also critical.
  • Occasional interaction with suppliers and customers is assumed.
