Position: Sr. Mainframe Software Engineer (Cobol)

Ingram Content Group (ICG) is currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer – COBOL in LaVergne, TN (Greater Nashville area). This position involves ongoing development and maintenance for major financial systems including A/R, billing, and sales reporting applications.

The role leads small‑to‑midsize projects and focuses on the analysis and design of new or improved systems, handling complex development issues such as multi‑platform development, and small‑size project management that does not cross departmental boundaries. This position will be hybrid and will be expected to work from the Ingram headquarters four days per week.

Qualifications minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or directly related experience
  • 6+ years development experience as application engineer/sr. programmer analyst
  • 5+ years mainframe COBOL and/or Mainframe/iSeries development experience
  • 5+ years relational database experience

Preference for:

  • Understanding of logistics order‑to‑delivery process, distribution functions or transportation processes
  • Experience with Account Receivable systems
  • Experience with ASI Accounts Receivable system
  • Knowledge of Cobol Programming on Mainframe and iSeries platforms
  • Knowledge of DB2, Oracle, SQL, SSIS and SSRS
  • Ability to be flexible/multi‑task based on workflow demands

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, and implement changes to existing mainframe COBOL programs/applications including integration with MQ and API middleware.
  • Work closely with client resources to assist in solution design and implementation.
  • Support user/customer community to capture system requirements.
  • Work with multiple systems (Order Processing, Warehouse Processing, Billing, Sales, Credit Processing).
  • Manage projects that require work from others.
  • Create project plans and manipulate the key factors (time, resources, and functionality) to offer alternatives to project sponsors.
  • Communicate project status and issues.
  • Investigate new technologies and new techniques.
  • Develop and modify internal‑facing software applications.
  • Provide application development life cycle support including specifications, prototypes, development, quality assurance, deployment and support.
  • Review and evaluate application workflow and user experience.
  • Provide adequate tests to ensure program meets specified requirements.
  • Coordinate with users and product owners to gather requirements.

Hiring Salary Range: $110,981–$141,123k. This range represents the anticipated low and high end of the salary for this position. It will be determined by factors including but not limited to the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, geographic location, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
