Summary of Position

A dance instructor with the Jackson Parks and Recreation is responsible for teaching assigned weekly classes, choreographing recital routines, and following an agreed upon curriculum that meets pre-set goals for assigned classes. Instructors should cultivate a positive and welcoming atmosphere between all students, parents, and staff members. This position reports to the Parks and Recreation Youth Recreation Supervisor. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Preparing class curriculum and participant goals prior to start date of program

• Adjusting and preparing a weekly lesson plan

• Taking attendance of participants

• Teaching a variety of youth participants at weekly classes

• Plans and coordinates with Youth Recreation Supervisor for recitals

• Attend any meetings as required by Youth Recreation Supervisor or Parks and Recreation Director

• Other relevant duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience Required

• Background in dance or dance education

• Teaching experience is preferred

• First Aid/CPR certification is preferred

• Friendly and welcoming personality

• Ability to manage a classroom of students

• Ability to adapt to all ages, levels, and abilities

• Knowledge of dance techniques and styles

• Great work ethic including integrity, self-motivation, and passion for working with kids

• Organizational and time-management skills
