Position Overview
The Paving Foreperson is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of an asphalt paving crew. This role requires hands-on leadership, extensive paving knowledge, and the ability to supervise field operations while maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily paving activities and overall job site organization.
- Supervise, schedule, and direct paving crews.
- Read and interpret construction plans and project specifications.
- Manage project goals, timelines, and budgets.
- Order materials and supplies required for field operations.
- Travel to and between various job sites.
- Assist crew members with labor tasks including shoveling and asphalt placement.
- Operate heavy equipment as needed.
- Maintain accurate time, production, and material records for job costing.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices and company policies.
- Participate in required drug testing, medical exams, and physical agility testing.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, individual must have hands on knowledge of all aspects of asphalt paving and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred. 10+ years of related asphalt paving or construction experience, or equivalent combination of education and training.
Skills & Abilities
Strong knowledge of asphalt paving operations and field supervision. Ability to lead crews and work effectively in team environments. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to read plans and follow written and verbal instructions. Basic math and job costing skills. Experience operating paving and heavy equipment preferred. Valid driver's license required.
