The Jackson Hole News&Guide seeks a managing editor with excellent English skills, AP style chops and a keen copy editing eye who can develop stories and writers. A managing editor also needs the vision and experience to aid editorial direction and support ethical journalism. Applicants should have experience with daily deadlines and staff organization.
The managing editor helps set the newsroom’s reporting priorities, edits and mentors reporters, supports the Editor in Chief, and consistently improves the quality and relevance of news in the award-winning weekly News&Guide, Jackson Hole Daily and digital channels. A focus on enterprise and investigative journalism is key.
The independently owned newspapers are located in Teton County, a mountain valley of 20,000 permanent residents, at the gateways to Grand Teton and Yellowstone national parks. We report for a vibrant and engaged readership. The tension between development and conservation, wealth and poverty and mountain lifestyle shape much of our work.
We have a modern, vibrant newsroom with five news reporters, sports and features section editors, two photographers plus a photo intern, a seasonal reporting intern, two designers, two copy editors and an editor in chief in addition to the managing editor. Collaborative leadership is essential.
Benefits package includes health insurance, paid time off (personal, holiday, vacation), fairly flexible schedule.
