POSITION
DESCRIPTION:
To provide a safe and developmental early education experience for children between the ages of birth to 3 years old. A primary responsibility of the Early Education Teacher is to implement a developmentally appropriate play-based curriculum to support the holistic growth of each student in the program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
* Plan and implement a full day-to-day developmentally appropriate play-based curriculum; including weekly themes and lesson plans. The inclusion of theme-related materials and rotation of toys and equipment on a regular basis.
* Provide a safe, responsive, stimulating environment by actively engaging oneself in daily activities and routines both indoors and outside.
* Plan field trips and outdoor activities that relate to the weekly themes and lesson plans.
* Form and maintain a professional relationship with parents, students, and staff.
* Assess all areas of development of children using a creative curriculum.
* Administer a positive discipline and comfort plan appropriately.
* Develop and maintain a portfolio for each child.
* Conduct two parent-teacher conferences per year.
* Responsible for the supervision and direction of part-time aide(s) and volunteers.
* Must be able to bend, stoop, lift and squat.
* Confidentiality of student records and information.
* Accident reporting and documentation.
* Maintain open communication with families
* Maintain and uphold state required DFS Health and Safety Regulations.
* Able to provide substitute support if needed.
* Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* High school graduation or equivalent.
* Completion of Department of Family Services Central Registry Screen.
* Tuberculosis testing required.
* Must complete at least 32 hours of continuing education classes every 2 years.
* Must be CPR certified or be able to become CPR certified directly after hire.
* Must submit to district and state required fingerprinting and background check(s).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

* Upper Body Mobility: use hands and fingers to feel, grasp, and manipulate small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at the wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower head.
* Lower Body Mobility: bend at waist; stoop; sit for prolonged periods of 1 hour.
* Strength: to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 15 pounds on a frequent basis; to lift, push, pull and/or carry objects which weigh as much as 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
* Environmental Requirements: encounter constant work interruptions; work cooperatively with others; work independently; work indoors.
* Mental Requirements: read, write, understand, interpret and apply information at a moderately complex level essential for successful job performance; understand, apply and interpret information; math skills at a high school proficiency level; the ability to process information quickly; learn quickly and follow verbal procedures and standards; give verbal instruction; rank tasks in order of importance; copy, compile and coordinate information and records;
decision making skills.
