PositionDescription:
The Substitute Teacher supports K–12 classrooms during teacher absences. The Substitute Teacher ensures the continuity of high-quality classical education during teacher absences by implementing prepared lesson plans, engaging students in meaningful learning, and maintaining a positive classroom environment. This is a temporary, hourly position ideal for individuals passionate about education and skilled in best practices of classroom management.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Maintains the integrity of the Academy’s classical curriculum and culture.
- Steps into various K–12 classroom environments and subject areas, adapting quickly to the needs of each.
- Delivers pre-planned lessons in a clear and engaging manner.
- Manages classroom behaviors and ensures a productive and respectful learning environment.
- Supervises students during instructional periods, transitions, and other assigned times, such as lunch or recess.
- Communicates effectively with students, staff, and administration.
- Provides feedback to the regular classroom teacher regarding any notable occurrences or completed assignments.
- Highest standards of integrity, sound judgment, confidentiality, and reliability.
- Strong interpersonal, relational, and communication skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to different grade levels and subject areas.
- Dependable and punctual, with a professional demeanor.
- Commitment to upholding the Academy’s values.
- Prior teaching or substitute teaching experience preferred.
- Experience with and love for working with children required.
- Ability to work on-call with short notice.
- Ability to supervise and engage students across a range of grade levels (K–12).
- Successfully pass a background check and meet all state and local requirements for school employment.
- Physical ability to stand, move, and engage with students actively throughout the day.
