POSITIONDESCRIPTION:
Primarily based out of Jackson Hole Middle School, this position is responsible for coordinating and conducting a large part of translation/interpretation for the school district. The position requires flexible hours to interpret for evening meetings and other last-minute translations as needed. Additionally, the position assists with secretarial duties and may assist other school district departments / schools as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:- Serve as translator/interpreter for Jackson Hole Middle School.
- May assist with IEPs, Student Evaluations, Referrals, and Transition Meetings and other student services.
- Translates forms and other documents.
- Coordinates with families of students to facilitate their participation in education services: informing parents of upcoming meetings, contacting parents regarding appointments with outside agencies, etc.
- Assists with parent teacher conferences, and other school-wide events such as after school events, etc.
- Serves as translator/interpreter for school / district level communication, documents, and events.
- Assists with phone calls and in-person interactions at school buildings for families needing Spanish interpretation.
- Coordinates with the school principal and (or) district Information Coordinator to ensure the translation/interpretation of district level communication.
- Works with the school principal and (or) information Coordinator to improve overall communication to and from Spanish-speaking families.
- Assists with program-wide translation of curriculum and materials for the dual immersion program.
- Assists with secretarial duties for school buildings.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS:
- High levels of proficiency in oral and written English/Spanish and the ability to conduct simultaneous translations.
- Knowledge of computers, Google software applications and Microsoft Word/ Excel, and other office equipment (copiers, fax, etc.)
- Knowledge of and familiarity with the specified language, culture, including customs, values, beliefs, and behaviors.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work flexibly and with minimal direction. Ability to manage projects/tasks and meet predetermined deadlines.
- Ability and desire to work collaboratively with colleagues in the Student Services Department and throughout the district.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Possess physical and mental stamina commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
- Experience working with Spanish-speaking parents and families in an educational setting.
- Experience with various communication structures and systems:
School Messenger, Publisher, etc. - Understanding of the Latino community in Teton County and contacts with community service agencies.
- Experience contracting with outside translation services.
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Associate and/or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Training/certification in translation/interpretation preferred.

Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person, may need to lift arms to write on chalk or marking board and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch and reach 0 - 24 inches and up to 36 inches above the head.
The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material,the ability to adjust focus, and exposure to screen(s) via technology. Hearing ability to monitor activity and presence of students and respond to communication with students and adults is required.
The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
