Public Works Street Operator / Utility Locator
The Town of Jackson, Public Works Department is now accepting applications for the full-time position of Street Operator/Utility Locator. Hiring range $29.82 - $33/hr or $62,025 - $68,640 annually DOQ. The primary duties include utility locates in the spring, summer and fall, and paperwork associated with those locates as well as public right of way maintenance including winter snow removal operations, street maintenance, sidewalk/boardwalk maintenance.
Additional duties include backup operations for water and sewer as necessary.
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
High School graduation or equivalent, a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain, and 2 years experience in a maintenance position utilizing light or heavy‑duty equipment or construction activities. Opportunities are provided for a selected applicant without experience or required licenses for on the job training for a long‑term career in public service.
A $7,500 signing/longevity bonus is provided over 3 years. If hired at the Street Operator/Utility Locator level, Operators are eligible to advance in position and compensation to Equipment Operator/Utility Locator I up to Senior Equipment Operator/Senior Utility Locator with an additional 4.5% increase in addition to annual wage increases with each advancement.
This position has full benefits offered by the Town of Jackson including health, vision and dental insurance with premiums paid 100%, HSA matching contributions, government retirement benefits, $1,000 deferred compensation match, Paid Time Off (PTO), which covers holidays, vacation and sick leave with up front paid leave.
This position is included in the federally mandated DOT‑FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Testing Program which includes pre‑employment, reasonable suspicion, post‑accident, and random drug testing. Below market rental housing options may be available.
