GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

As a Highway Maintenance Technician, you are responsible for performing various maintenance duties, under limited supervision, to provide a safe, high-quality, and efficient transportation system. We are seeking a Highway Maintenance Technician for the Maintenance Program located in Jackson, Wyoming Jackson Hole offers a vibrant mix of outdoor adventure and cultural charm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
- Maintains and operates complex equipment safely and proficiently
- Assists with training other technicians in the operation and maintenance of equipment
- Under limited supervision, flags traffic and sets up traffic control devices
- Operates heavy equipment including, but not limited to: single and tandem axle trucks, equipped with an auger, aerial lift equipment, or equipped with plows, wing plows, sanders, and chemical systems to remove snow and ice from the roadway surface
- Responsible for rehabilitation of roadway surfaces and/or traffic control devices such as signs and pavement markings
- Responsible for general maintenance of highway-related facilities such as rest areas; this may include performing water and waste water treatment according to EPA and DEQ requirements
- Attends and completes all state and federal training required to obtain/maintain certifications, perform inspections, and learn new skills
- Communicates information in order to update others' status and/or process effectiveness
- Utilizes computers for agency practices, such as for training and performance evaluations, and keeps up to date on technological advances with specialized equipment
- Performs duties involved in removing snow and ice from roadways; determines effectiveness of treatments and may determine when a change in treatment is necessary
- Responsible for adhering to all state and federal safety and quality standards, including the correct use of all associated personal protective equipment
*** PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to applicants who have a current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements prior to employment. Must have the ability to obtain water certifications if necessary. Must have the ability to obtain a Certification to operate specified equipment as directed by WYDOT. Must have the ability to obtain a Certificate of course completion in Defensive Driving.
Must have the ability to obtain a First Aid/CPR certification. Must have the ability to obtain a Flagger certification.
