Position Title: Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) Teacher-English 7-12

Department: Building Level

Reports To: Building Principal

Contract:  School Year (190 days)

Closing: Until Filled

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, provide classroom instruction to students enrolled in an alternative education setting. Reinforce instruction to individual students and small groups in a variety of academic subjects and other learning activities, including implementing personal education plans and behavior plans. Teacher will utilize various behavioral strategies and alternative programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides supervision of students in educational settings.
  • Provides whole group and small group instruction to students enrolled in an alternative school setting.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of an individual education service plan for students.
  • Assists administration in implementing district policies and guidelines that govern student behavior and safety
  • Plans daily classroom instructional activities.
  • Administers student assessments to ascertain academic needs of students enrolled in an alternative setting.
  • Works collaboratively with school and agency counselors, teachers, administrators, parents and related service providers in the overall educational plan for students to include lessons that address the student’s behavioral needs.
  • Prepares lesson plans to correlate with student needs.
  • Maintains student records and files in a confidential manner.
  • Keeps accurate documentation regarding student progress, needs, strengths, etc. (i.e. grades, observations, anecdotal records, other related data).
  • Keeps daily student attendance.
  • Communicates with parents, teachers, administrators, and related service providers on an as needed basis.
  • Serves on various teams, committees on an as needed basis.
  • Submits all reports, forms, records and data as requested by Principal, Director and/or Superintendent.
  • Maintains proper certification by attending college, workshop and professional development courses.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism and ethics, working cooperatively with the Board, the Superintendent, administrators, certificated and non-certificated personnel, parents, and students.
  • Partners with school counseling services and mental health providers in order to positively affect student success
  • Attends required staff and district meetings
  • Participates in school wide events
  • Completes and participates in required building and district professional development activities
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Performs other related work as required including the improvements to program as related to suspension alternatives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to manage student behavior.
  • Ability to consult with parents, teachers and the community to enhance the learning of students.
  • Ability to monitor student performance.
  • Ability to interact within the educational environment.
  • Ability to perform non-instructional duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices, intervention techniques and behavior management.
  • Ability to be an active listener, problem solver, and effective communicator.
Education / Licensure / Experience

Must possess a Bachelors Degree or higher with a valid Arkansas teaching license in an area that meets the position's essential duties, responsibilities and grade levels. Four years of successful education experience preferred.
Licensure Code 116 prefered.

Other Requirements

Successful completion of pre-employment background checks. Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times around students, other staff members and the general public.

  • Ability to manage instructional time.
