Middle School Art Teacher (6-8)
The role of the art teacher is to develop in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with Arkansas learning standards; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; and to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Teach art courses to students in grades 6-8, utilizing course guidelines that are aligned with Arkansas teaching/learning standards and other appropriate guides in teaching individual course content.
- Develop lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids, methods, materials, and techniques unique to the visual arts in: drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, collage, crafts, photography, film, and electronic technologies.
- Design learning activities using elements of art, principles of design, theories of artistic creativity and aesthetics and philosophies of prominent artists and art educators.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Evaluate each student's progress.
- Communicate with parents and school counselors to discuss the individual student's progress.
- Supervise students in and out-of-classroom during the assigned work day.
- Participate in curriculum developmental programs.
- Maintain professional competence through professional learning activities provided by the District, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in the evaluation process.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree required; field of study correlated to teaching assignment as an elementary or secondary art teacher with the appropriate Arkansas licensure code or equivalent. Teachers with experience are valued; however, no prior experience is required. Highly prefer AP Certification.
Other RequirementsSuccessful completion of pre-employment background checks. Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times around students, other staff members and the general public.
