The District Support Teacher provides high-quality instruction in assigned content areas and grade levels based on the instructional needs of the Jacksonville North Pulaski School District. This position is designed to provide staffing flexibility and may include assignments in elementary physical education, middle school physical education and health, and Gifted & Talented enrichment courses under the supervision of the District GT Curriculum Coordinator.
Assignments may vary from year to year based on District needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide an instructional program to meet the needs of all students.
- Create a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
- Prepare for class assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
- Adhere to the curriculum pacing guide in order to maximize student learning.
- Plan for and utilize instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques, which motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
- Take all necessary and safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and District policy.
- Fosters among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, a desire to perform at the highest level, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community.
- Works cooperatively with building administrators and maintenance personnel in the maintenance of athletic facilities.
- Ensures the concept of "Good Sportsmanship" is communicated to all JNPSD athletes and parents.
- Promotes the athletic program within the school and community.
- Establishes and enforces the physical, academic and training requirements of eligibility for participation; monitors class attendance and conduct of all athletes; coordinates required physical examinations for athletes.
- Attends all athletic events in assigned sport and shows interest and support for other athletic and academic events.
- Demonstrates knowledge of AAA rules.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Instructional Assignments
- Elementary Physical Education (Kindergarten)
- Deliver developmentally appropriate physical education instruction focused on motor skills, movement, fitness, and healthy lifestyles.
- Promote physical activity and social-emotional development through age-appropriate activities.
- Middle School Physical Education and Health (Grades 7–8)
- Teach physical education and health courses aligned with Arkansas curriculum standards.
- Promote lifelong wellness, physical fitness, and healthy decision-making.
- Ensure student safety during all physical activities.
- Gifted & Talented Enrichment (Grades K–2)
- Facilitate enrichment activities and instructional experiences designed by the District GT Curriculum Coordinator.
- Support differentiated learning opportunities for identified Gifted & Talented students.
- Collaborate regularly with the GT Curriculum Coordinator to implement curriculum and monitor student progress.
- Attend training related to Gifted & Talented programming as directed.
Education/Licensure/
Experience:
Bachelor's degree with a license in P.E. and Health K-12. Teachers with experience are valued; however, no prior experience is required.
