Job SummaryThe staff accountant at Miller Electric is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing timely account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with state and local tax requirements. This role supports the month‑end close process, prepares and files sales & use tax returns, manages personal property tax filings, and assists with general accounting functions to support organizational financial accuracy and integrity.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities
- Prepare and complete monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve variances in a timely manner.
- Maintain organized documentation supporting all reconciliations.
- Assist with month‑end and year‑end close processes.
- Prepare journal entries with appropriate support.
- Assist in preparation of audit schedules for external auditors.
- Research tax law and answer internal tax questions related to ongoing projects.
- Maintain a compliance calendar to manage deadlines and reduce penalty risk.
- Prepare, review, and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales & use tax returns.
- Monitor state and local tax law changes to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Reconcile sales tax accounts and resolve related issues with state agencies.
- Maintain exemption certificates and audit‑ready documentation.
- Collect and maintain asset data required for personal property tax filings.
- Prepare and submit annual personal property tax returns.
- Reconcile tax assessments and payments to the general ledger.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- 3–4 years of accounting and tax experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP and general ledger structure.
- Experience with sales & use tax
- Proficiency with Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently.
